"Tunngasugit" - My welcome into the great North of Nunavut, Canada

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Canada | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 4 photos

The only thing I can ever remember really wanting was to be a photographer. To capture images of places and people that would tell a story to the rest of the world. At a young and impressionable age a professional photographer told me that I didn’t have what it takes and that the world of photography was no place for a woman except in front of the camera. This statement made a home in my subconscious and has held me back from exploring my creativity and my passion. I have been fortunate enough to travel the world. My travels have reignited the flame of love for this art. I have photographed people and places that have welcomed me as one of their own. People who wanted their images captured for time immemorial. To know that their face would live on in some part of the world. Their stories would be told for generations to come. This scholarship would be the opportunity I need to learn from the passion of another person and to help me realize my own potential; that I too can share the stories of the people of the world through my eyes. I wish to teach the world about a part of our planet that they may never see, to connect humanity through the understanding of each other’s cultures.
