Lonely settlement (Ha Giang, Vietnam) Living is hard in Ha Giang. People live from their corn. In hard work they have to cultivate the poor soil. The water for the daily life comes from the rain or the river in the valley.

A niche for living (Ha Giang, Vietnam)
When the forests disappear erosion increases … such as in the steep mountains of Ha Giang (Vietnam). Here, the fertile soil is washed away. Only stones and rocks remain ... and the people of the Lô Lô ethnic minority. Despite the harsh conditions they attempt to survive. They plow the stony soil to grow some corn and other grains. Here it is very hard to survive, … without the protection of the forests life is becoming increasingly difficult.

Mountain pasture (Ha Giang, Vietnam)
On the top of the high mountains I found a cow and a buffalo which shared the meager fodder of the mountain pasture. Only some trees protect the steep precipices of the highlands.
