Celebration of Death in Tana Toraja
Indonesia | Thursday, July 4, 2013 | flickr photos
All of my life I've been a "jack-of-all-trades" but feel that I've never been a master of any. I've self-taught myself to photography with the encouragement of family and friends. At 30, I'm after a career-defining, life-changing experience; photojournalism is my obsession. I'm excited with the opportunity to be mentored by an established professional which I believe will help on my long-term objective to become one as well. What excites me about photography is the spontaneity of it, the ability to be creative and the way it can transcend the visual aspect by stimulating thought and reflection. I hope the photos I've chosen are appealing and representative of the Tana Toraja culture. Despite trusting myself as a visual storyteller, I am convinced that I have a lot to learn and I’m humble to accept criticism. I understand the path is long and that there are no shortcuts, so I encourage you to believe in my potential and allow me to surprise you during this assignment. I will embrace this opportunity with passion and energy.
Sincerely,
Gus Schiavon
