a day of funny contrasts here in Vang Vieng - floating in an inner tube down the Nam Song river. The first leg involves Beer Lao and its constant replenishment at various riverbank shack bars that woo backpackers with blasting club music, happy shakes and zip-wire dives. i do everything except the happy shakes and in a soaking wet Beer Lao tank. So reminiscent of a frat party except for the breathtaking backdrop of sheer limestone cliffs topped with trees. thank god the second half is just nature and silence. me and my inner tube swirl around rocks, through rapids and by half-submerged water buffalo.
