Every conversation I have these days is deeply marked by gloominess. The word “crisis” has become as frequent as a friendly “good morning”. Photography, to me, is a getaway that allows me to overcome the pervasive pessimism that reigns in my country, Spain, and to prevent optimism from leaving me.
Buying a house, a car, going to work every day at the same hour in the morning, getting a promotion, and making enough money to settle down and buy a lot of stuff I’ll rarely use. Those have never been my ambitions. When I was a child, I used to dream about being a writer, an aspiration that I gradually abandoned as I grew up.Some years ago, however, I blew the dust off it, realizing that I was able to write through stories with photography.
I want to grow old feeling that I created beautiful images, that I succeeded in telling stories powerful enough to move people. I want to become rich; not with money but with people’s words, let other cultures show me that the world is not the way it’s shown on TV.This is why I want to get this scholarship; this is why I want to go to Oman with Jason Edwards. Thanks for offering me the opportunity to dream again as I used to do when I was a child.
