My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Philippines | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | 5 photos

I'd like to think of myself as a teller of stories. Since I can remember, I've been making up stories, twisting around facts, things I know into something different from the environment I'm in. If I'm not writing them, I draw (crudely and badly) or do a monologue. As I got older, this story telling has evolved into another form: photos. I have next to no talent in drawing. I digress too much to make a story cohesive enough to reach its eventual conclusion. Then there's photography--story telling cannot be as direct and concise and to the point as that (for me at least). This was not a conscious effort, though. I think it runs in the family, that penchant for photography. I think it just eventually evolved into that form which I can use to tell stories. I like to travel. I do it whenever (and when financially) possible and that opportunity of exposing the beauty and stories of people residing in a certain place excites me.

I think there is always something relevant and beautiful in every individual's story like the story of fishermen on the egde of Luzon at the town of Sanchez Mira in the province of Cagayan. That story needs to be told and I want to do it in the way in which I can--through a captured moment, a pause in turbulent time; through photos.
