Okay another day in Roma!  It hasn't rained for our entire trip! Its great not having to plan your journey around the weather. In Rome its sunny everyday....I guess its the time of year.  Today we had a plan....to do a walking tour of Rome.  WE started at the Spanish steps where we brought a quick snack which consisted of procuitto and parmesan sandwich with grapes. Berninis' fountain at the foot of the steps was an optical illusion. It actually looked like the stone boat was floating.Angie and I both filled our water bottles in the fountain spouts then other people did the same.  Not many people know the water is totally spring and cold.  Rome has some of the best drinkable H2o in Europe. Then on to Fontana di Trevi, the most famous and beautiful fountain in Rome.  It sits at the end of Aqua Virgo, one of the ancient aqueducts that supplied spring water to Rome.  It is tradition to toss a coin into the fountain as this will ensure a speedy return to Rome.  Angie and I did this 3 years ago and look where we are now!  Angie sat in some gelato so she took a bit of a bath in the fountain.  I helped to clean her off in front of an audience of about 300 hundred onlookers.  Next we were off to Piazza di Barderi where a beautiful fountain was the centre piece of a spacious square piazza.  Then onto the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the changing of the guards.  A place cherished by Italians commemorating the battles they have fought for the freedom they enjoy today . Mussolini was Hitlers buddy so thankfully he was defeated. From the top of this building known as the "wedding cake" you can get a birdseye view of the Roman Forum. On to the Pantheon.  Its a church that holds the remains of the famous painter  Raphael. The Pantheon is the best preserved Roman antiquity ever.  Then onto Piazza Navona. Exquisite carved fountains by Berninni.  Fontana di Moro is one of 3 beautiful fountains that make this piazza a must see. A slow but deliberate walk brought us to the best and cheapest gelateria in Rome,  Old Bridge, via Bastioni di Michelangelo, just across from the entrance to the Vatican museum. 2 euros for a huge cone. Took 2 hours to get back to Camping Roma cuz the bus we needed didn't run on Sunday so we had to take the metro to another stop. Right now I'm just kicking back enjoying some wine ,cheese and grapes and thinking about how nice and easy and slow and enjoyable this walking tour of Rome has been.
