My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Photography is a powerful medium. It has the ability to connect a memory to a place or time, to create a sense of curiosity and wonder, to teach the intricacies of a culture, to educate about issues and problems in the world.
I find it fascinating that a photograph can capture a moment, an event, an experience, that will never occur in that exactly same way again.
I am Australian living in Amsterdam, and so far in life I have predominately saved my money to photograph the world. It has always been a hobby, which I dream about taking to a new level. However, to date, I have lacked the confidence and guidance to do so.
Over the years I have discovered I love landscape and wildlife photography, and more recently, portraits.
This opportunity to assist and learn from a National Geographic photographer does not come often. To watch how he works, hear his ideas, see his perspective is something I would welcome with open arms.
Though I know there is some amazing wildlife and landscapes in Oman, it has not been high my countries I’d like to visit. I see huge potential here for myself as a photographer, both to create a sense of wonder of the country, and also to capture the issues and challenges faced there and perhaps inspire some sort of sustainable change.
