Waiheke Island

New Zealand | Thursday, June 20, 2013 | 5 photos

I am a husband and father and have been living on Waiheke Island for 10 years. I am currently studying a diploma in photography and have just completed a diploma in digital film. I discovered my passion for taking pictures shortly after an old man with a long white beard cleaning rubbish on a beach gave me a brand new Canon SLR. I was walking with my wife and new baby girl. He approached me politely and said he had an impulse to give me a camera then returned from his little caravan up the hill with new camera and receipt. Apparently he bought it with payout money from an injury at work. His name was Abraham. I know it sounds fictional but I guarantee you this incident changed my focus on who I am and how I see the world. Now I'm always taking photos when I see the perfect opportunity whether at work on the vineyard or taking portraits of my family at home. I recently created a simple studio with a pair of cheap builder's lights, an old white umbrella and a black table cloth. Unfortunately I don't have the $ to spend on good lenses and other higher end equipment however I am a straight A photography student with a cheap camera, an eye for the beautiful and a thirst for travel.
