My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Japan | Saturday, June 29, 2013 | 5 photos

Spending one year in Japan as an exchange student turned out to be a life-changing experience. Since then, my passion for travelling could not stop growing. I have just got back from Sweden, where I lived and studied for nine months with people from all over the world.
During my travels, photography has become more and more important for me. At first it was merely instrumental – a way to stay connected to my loved ones. Now, when I take a picture I want to grasp “the cultural essence” of what I see. I do not simply want my picture to be significant for me or my family, I want whoever looks at it to feel as if they lived in that culture and understood what people said around them. Photography truly is an intercultural experience, connecting people and places all over the planet, making you questioning your own values, habits and opinions.
The Travel Photography Scholarship would provide me the technical ability to improve my practical approach to photography, since I really feel the lack of technique. I want who looks at my pictures to understand the richness that only travelling and the exchange with other cultures can give you.
