Lost in Asia... A journey through Asia from January 2010, on a life adventure, with no idea what the end result will be ....

And 8 weeks to go...

Instead of doing the 10,000 odd things I have to do before I head off on the 29th December, I am debating whether or not I should maintain a blog for the duration of my trip to Asia with Breda. I am sure that it is a great idea, and in the past I have always sent out emails regarding my trips. I am now told by the young trendy folk that blogging is the way to go and who am I to argue !! It also saves people getting emails, and they can look at it if they so please

So here I am, exactly 8 weeks before the trip officially commences, writing a selection of random words onto a computer screen in my apartment in the hope that they will eventually make sense in the future and trigger some memories of the adventure that lies ahead. This day 8 weeks, I will be boarding a plane in Dublin Airport destined for Dubai for New Years Eve and then on to Asia on the 2nd January, where the real adventure begins.

How prepared are we? Well I would say reasonably so; Breda would say not at all :) We have learned the skill of compromise, and booking some things, but not everything. That’s a good start I think – the question is can we keep it up

We have a flight to Dubai and on to Yangon, a flight from Yangon to Chiang Rai to commence the ~2 month loop around Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. Then we have a return flight from Bangkok to Kathmandu. Also booked a $12 flight from Phnom Penh to Bangkok, but I won’t cry too much if we have to skip it if we end up taking a detour. Accommodation wise, we are sorted in Dubai, first 2 nights in Yangon and the night stopover in Bangkok from Yangon to Chiang Rai. That should be plenty, although I think we will book a few more places like Pak Beng, first 2 nights in Luang Prabang etc, where we arrive in late and don’t want the hassle of sorted it.

Visa wise, we are sorted for Myanmar and Vietnam; Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Nepal we can get on the borders. Tibet we will need to sort out in Kathmandu itself.

On reflection, I would say we are totally sorted for the trip !! Nothing more to do than hop on the plane on the 29th J Go us !

Sadly though it’s not as simple as that – the boring stuff is left! Finish up work, pack up and vacate an apartment, sort out all the financial woes, pay silly taxes, get travel jabs etc. All that boring stuff that needs to be done before heading off on a 6 month plus adventure. On that, I am way behind, but a good week will sort it out – I am sure J So tonight’s job is to make the boring list of the things I need to be done, and then start actioning them immediately

I am off now to work on the list.. will update this again in a week or so as the countdown begins. The big question is – how long can I maintain the blogging thing
