My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

France | Thursday, October 27, 2011 | 5 photos

I moved to Paris this October to live for a month while studying for a TEFL certificate. As nervous as I was at the start, I’ve slowly grown to love this strange old city. It’s an amazing place to be able to discover, from its jam-packed tourist attractions to the markets hidden in criss-crossing backstreets. Everyone is interesting: the businessman in his pinstripe suit drinking his first coffee of the day; the old man falling asleep in the seat across from you on the metro; the young mother with her three children trying to cross the road before the cars and motorbikes rush forward again. I’m sad to leave it behind because it’s as much a part of me now as I was a part of it.
As for photography, I guess you could say I’m a budding photographer. As clichéd as it sounds, photography has been part of my life since I can remember. One of my earliest memories of my dad is him teaching me how to fit a roll of film into one of his cameras. I’m a student now taking a year out before going to university. So far I’ve been to Portugal, India, lived in Paris and am heading off next year to travel Southeast Asia and work at a summer camp in the USA. A year isn't much time but I'm using all this travelling to photograph as I much as I possibly can before I have to knuckle down and start studying again.
