'Call of the Wild' is inspired by footage I took of a chance encounter with wildlife and the profound affect it had on me.
Given the brief for the video, I was interested in using the footage to explore the paradoxical notion of a 'local encounter" in such a remote, uninhabited place and how being witness to these transient and unexpected occurrences in space and time can provide the most unique and valued experiences. An underlying message of the film is that we find things in places we least expect to find them.
During filming I faced the challenge of not agitating the bears yet being close enough to get good shots. Fortunately they were at so much ease in their environment that the only real challenge was trying to get some sleep in my rental car in the freezing cold.
I met so many people whilst backpacking who live in hardship yet embrace life to the full. I aspire to pursue my love of adventure to remote corners of the world and give back to the people who have shown me such hospitality by providing them with a medium to voice their inspirational stories to an outside audience.
