My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Mexico | Monday, October 4, 2010 | 5 photos

I’m not a romantic, I go digital, I adore color and I like this new darkroom called photoshop. Even though I’m not a romantic, I’m in love of beauty. I have a sweet tooth and I want my images to be eye-candy, at least in my mind.

This series of photographs started in a journey to a hidden community in the middle of the jungle in the south of Mexico. The last two hours to reach the place were taken by foot, crossing rivers and cutting plants to open the path. Exhausted, my father and I got into the place at the very last rays of sun light; a place amidst deep vegetation with panoramic views. Yet there was no darkness, everything was glowing in a veil of fireflies.

We stayed a few days among the indigenous community who live in the area. They were incredible warm and surprising. The most unexpected questions popped up from them; there was one guy who asked me what the stars were. Then I got excited talking about space and astronomy. I’m not quite sure if he got it, maybe it would have been better to let him keep the idea of small burning rocks stuck in the night sky.

Why should I be chosen? This is the tough part, since there’s a thin line between being arrogant or being boring. Well, I love nature, adventure, travelling, and of course, photography. I have just finished university, and I’m looking for opportunities and adventures to happen. I believe that for photography the best way to learn is through life, experience and practice. Therefore, having this huge learning experience with a top photographer would be incredibly amazing and inspiring. Successes in life are all about chance; this one would make such an important difference for me.
