My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Tuesday, November 1, 2011 | 4 photos

My name is Garry Ogston from Perth Western Australia, I am 24 years old and I am currently studying my Bachelor’s degree in Conservation and Wildlife Biology. I have also previously completed my Certificate IV in Conservation and Land Management and helped conservation efforts through many volunteer organisations.

This series of photos is taken at Yellagonga National Park in Perth Western Australia. I feel I should be selected for the Photography Scholarship as I my main passion first and foremost is conservation. I feel that one of the best ways to benefit conservation efforts is through awareness, and what better way to do this than through the art that is photography.

I am in no way a professional photographer, but I am passionate about capturing shots that will help spread awareness. I also love capturing the everyday moments that I share with my partner, and when we travel, we take more than our fair share of pictures. Photography is a passion of mine, and I feel I can learn a great deal from this trip, and I am very eager to learn ways to help master my photography skills. Due to not previously studying photography everything will be fresh, and I will be taking everything in on a blank canvas. I will also get the chance to hopefully pursue this passion further and combine it with my passion of conservation, and possibly becoming a wildlife photographer.

If selected for this scholarship I feel my contribution back to the world and photography itself will be buy helping capture the hardships faced in Africa, as well as the threats to the wildlife, but also the beauty that exists in such a nation, both in its people and environment.
