Tourism within Indonesia is a relatively new phenomenon. Here, at the Bali Culture Park, tourists visit from elsewhere in Indonesia. Most signs are in Bahasa Indonesia, and the experience is geared toward Indonesian nationals.

Bali's younger generation depends greatly upon the income provided by tourists. The draw of Balinese arts and culture is undeniable, yet fragile. An example of this is the complex rite of marriage, which can take an entire day, and can cost the couple the equivalent of 5-months' wages.

Performers rest after their modern dance piece at the 2007 Festival Kesenian Indonesia (Indonesian Arts Festival). This performance involved the sea, driftwood, and over 50 painted performers; it is indicative of the changing face of the Arts in Indonesia, and is highly influenced by Western performance art.
