Eastern epiphanies on western wages

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

India | Tuesday, October 12, 2010 | 5 photos

As a young artist-turned-plebeian worker of the corporate world, a mismatch in values led me on a quest of wanting to understand more, and why. They say India is a spiritual centre for those in need of such answers, and these photos are a sojourn of taking a small step forward in understanding humanity and our place.

These photos attempt to capture the eclectic culture of Goa in India, where East meets West, where we can attempt to find ourselves in that meagre 4 weeks that a full-time career with potential permits.

I love culture, I love visual communication and I love travelling. To be able to immerse yourself in another culture, and contemplate a different way of life is something that unquestionably get me ticking. To be able to pass on the message, to capture the image, to tell that thousand words, it would be an existence worth living and breathing.

Aristotle quotes ‘It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.'

I believe that National Geographic teaches the world to entertain different ways of life, and to appreciate every element that we take for granted. It would be an honour to have this opportunity to be a part of such an altruistic idea, whilst gaining the skills to be able to contribute to it.
