My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

My name is Bradley Dohnt and although I have always enjoyed taking photographs it wasn’t until I started scuba diving that my passion really took off. It came from trying to explain to friends and family all the amazing things I see under the water and the kind of places I visit to go diving. No matter how hard I tried I could never quite articulate the colours and the amazing things I had seen. It was at that point I decided the only way I was going to be able to show people without them seeing for themselves was to capture it on camera. I soon realised that this was easier said than done but I still strive to be able to bring back a little bit of each adventure back with me on camera in a hope that maybe they will see and feel what I did. This dream has since spread to other adventures in my life. Whenever possible I like to get out and experience new things and am always looking for those moments that make you stop and think “wow”. I enjoy an active lifestyle primarily taken up by diving, climbing and hiking. One of my passions and the place I still strive to make people understand is cave diving. I am regularly asked why do you do it and what do you see and it’s very hard to answer as mostly it’s just rocks and mud but to feel what it’s like go from squeezing through small tunnels to popping out in a large chamber is simply amazing and I hope one day to truly capture that on camera to help people understand and possible feel a little of what I feel.
I’d like to share these kinds of places and experiences with the world through photography.
