These photos tell the story of sunrise from the borobudur temple in java. I have tried to demonstrate with these photos the immense feeling of calm and tranquility that this time of the day brings to those that rise early enough. This is valued so highly in java where finding your own space can seem impossible in a place that can be overwhelmingly crowded, noisy, dirty and hot. The quiet and coolness that come at sunrise bring a sense of peace and spirituality and the mind-space for internal reflection. To me this was a very powerful feeling being in an incredible place of worship that is far older than my imagination even allows for. I tried to capture all these feelings with these photos and the beautiful light of sunrise which brings with it the gradual increasing heat that lifts the fog from the mountains and the cold stone.
