About francesca_gentile
I was born in Turin in 1976 and I have a degree in History of Film at Turin University. I work as director and videomaker in television production.
I began dealing with historical memory and in 2000 I realized “L’ardua sentenza”
(Let history decide), winner of 1st prize at Valsusa Filmfest 2001 and
2nd prize at Corti in Valle in 2003 – a documentary overview in Lecco.
I realized for the Council of Turin shorts and promos on the city’s artistic initiatives. I also worked as producer and footage researcher for Spike Lee’s commercial for Telecom Italia “Gandhi” (prod. Colorado Commercials).
In 2007 I directed a short documentary, “Gotan“, later developed into “Alma Doble – memorie argentine per pianoforte e ballerini“, an Italian-French co-production about tango artists Gustavo Beytelmann, Silvia Vladimivsky and Gotan Project. It was selected for Mediterranean Documentary FilmFestival Lavrio (Greece), Born in Malaga Filmfestival (Spain) and Festival del Cinema in Salerno. I also worked as videomaker in RAI’s documentary production “Il profumo del prato verde” directed by Giorgio Gambino, and Rai tv shows for kids on sport.
In 2009 I worked for Positive Living, a Toronto based production company, as history researcher for “Gadget girlz“, a tvshow about hi-tech gadgets for Men Tv Canada, and directed “Eat, it’s good for you“, a cooking show for Telelatino Canada.
Currently I’m working as indipendent director with Current TV dealing with portraits of players in the film-making world (David Cronenberg, Michael Nyman) and reports on society.
I love my job because it allows me to travel and get in contact with people and realities that otherwise I wouldn't know.
