My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Thank you for your consideration in this Travel Photography Scholarship program!
These images I took while exploring the region after being invited to participate in Birthright Israel trip in summer 2011. Here I realized that education is key in creating the world we want to live in, or don't!
My five year plan is to generate enough revenue & interest in my community to support a program to heighten media literacy and foster creative confidence among diverse groups of indigenous peoples. I plan to return to Guatemala and continue work with an indigenous acting group from various small towns around the highlands of Quetzaltenango. To teach & enable indigenous youth & adults to take & make pictures & motion pictures.
I am currently working toward this goal by teaching photography & film-making classes with a community organization called Austin Free-Skool.
I believe the image maker is not a silent observer, they change the situation just by observing it. I want my contribution to be changing it for the better. Access to technology and education on how to effectively wield it are the fastest vehicles to large-scale social change in the developing world.
