The Presence Within

My subject matter are vulnerable girls in suburban slums of metropolis Mumbai,India.I wanted to tell their stories because its a local experience that each city dweller sees everyday and yet chooses to ignore them and I wanted to speak for their freedom of expression and challenges of mere existence.

This was the documentary I was last working on.I cannot survive as a full time documentary maker so I also colour grade documentaries of various NGOs currently in a post production unit.

Its a challenge to tell real stories because there is nothing controlled about the subject or surroundings unlike fiction.I like that tension and drama in real life and how socially relevant and impactful it can be which is why I aspire to be a good documentary filmmaker.

This scholarship will bring me closer to experience the challenges,technically and humanly in trying situations and test my ambition of being a documentary maker in the first place.Also,being mentored and shoot a subject matter outside my country of origin would help me to understand if I have it in me to speak for other communities and portray their issues in an unbaised light.So,I think this scholarship would be a great opportunity and provide the right impetus for an Indian like me to hone and develop my aspirations in the right direction.
