My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Poland | Thursday, January 10, 2013 | 5 photos

I’m a psychologist, I’m currently working on my Ph.D. project. I take pictures, because it gives me an opportunity to take rest from conceptual thinking and rigid rules of social sciences. It is really refreshing how individual and subjective photography is. It’s also nice to have my right hemisphere stimulated for a change. I’m mostly interested in social issues, my guru is Martin Parr. I mostly like pictures which are somehow sarcastic or surreal.
I have never received a proper training in photography, I mostly learn by looking at other people’s pictures and experimenting. Therefore, I feel that I have a basic knowledge on photography, but it’s rather chaotic and professional guidance is much needed. I would like to learn more about equipment and technique; nevertheless, the most appealing thing about the scholarship is the opportunity to observe a photographer at work. When I look at the pictures, I only see what attracted photographer’s attention. If I’m there with you, I can see how you filter reality, what you look for, what you find not worth taking pictures of.
In general, I could say that I have some sensibility and that’s a good thing to start with.
