About florabaker
I'm a writer and travel blogger currently volunteering in Cuenca, Ecuador, where I teach English and attempt to learn Spanish. After June I'll be travelling around South America - my very vague plans currently stand at a month in Peru, working at an Ayahuasca retreat, followed by a month volunteering in Bolivia, a few months travelling through Brazil, Argentina and Chile, with an even vaguer possibility of volunteering with penguins over New Year at the tip of the continent! After that, I'm currently entertaining ideas about flying up to Central America to intern with a responsible tourism operator - but in all honesty, who knows where I'll be or what I'll be up to this time next year.
Suffice to say I'm passionate about travel, and I write about all my travelling exploits on my blog, Flora The Explorer - another passion which I'm somewhat obsessed with! I love volunteering when I'm abroad as I feel it's the best way to really get under the skin of a country and properly interact with people, which sadly doesn't happen as often when you visit a place for a few days, stay in hotels and only visit the prime tourist attractions. My travelling ethos is to move slow and deep; to get to know a place properly and feel like it's really left its mark on me before I move on.
