The story behind this recipeCibi condimentum fames est (lat.)
It was a long ago in far and cold Russia. My ancestors lived near Finland. There is a village in the dark forest. They didn't nor money neither conveniences. But they have a wonderful kailyard. And of course men liked to hunt. It must be noted that elkhunting was not only for food. It used to have sacral meaning.
One myth said that the magic elk was running in the sky. And nobody could catch him. Then a son of God got magic skiing and started hunting. Eventually he could drive away to the Earth the elk. But Traces of heavenly hunting left in the sky. Milky Way is ski run of the hunter. Ursa Major is the Elk.
That's why elkhunting was noble for my ancestors. And while hunting they felt that they became creators of the world. Initially the dish, I've described, was very simple and consisted of an elk, potatoes, onion and garlic. Now we maybe forgot about traditions and world view of our ancestors. But we have still prepared this soup. Sure since old times the recipe has changed a lot. When my parents moved to the city, they become to cook the soup with pepper and tomatoes. And when I've grown up, I understood, that the dish will be very tasty, if I add a lot of spices. It has turned delicious!
