What's this about?

So, here I am - Jan 1 2008 counting down the days to the trip I've been planing for 18 months now. This journal will not be a standard travel journal, but more of a diary detailing the preparation leading up to my record breaking attempt. What is this trip all about? Read on.....

Music and adventure have not often been associated together, but The Highest Notes – Ever is a project that marries up these two often disparate themes. It has been my dream for many years to not only break a world record, but to break one in a spectacular and unusual fashion. Music and Mountains have been a part of my life for many years and combining the two to not only realise that dream, but assist a great Australian charity, seemed a natural combination.

This project is a dream that combines the beauty of mountains with the purity of music. The quest involves a brass quintet (two trumpets, two trombones, and one french horn) hiking to the summit of one of the most spectacular mountains in the world - Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, East Africa in order to break the Guinness World Record for the Concert Performed at the Highest Altitude. The literal achievement of this title will also raise funds and awareness for the work of the Fred Hollows Foundation.

I'll add more info as the days go on, but if you are impatient to know more, head over here http://www.everydayhero.com.au/HighestNotesEver    This web page has a complete outline of the trip and you can even donate direct to Fred Hollows if you feel moved!!

Ciao for now,

fito
