4) The heavy snows can isolate the village for several months of the year.

3) Located near the Japan Sea coast, this region receives some of the heaviest snowfall in Japan. To prevent damage from excessive snow accumulation the houses are built with A-shaped roofs.

5) The first signs of Spring. By April the plum, peach and cherry blossoms start to bloom attracting the tourists once more and reviving the village economy.
