Finally! My first time in Africa! but where am I? I always imagined Africa like a place where the animals run free an the nature is luxuriant. Now i'm seeing sand.....and sand...and sand.........sand everywhere! a bit different then the pictures or the documentaries by Discovery Channel!
But it's amazing... a fantastic place where i feel the silence breath, it's an undescrivible feeling! So it's the moment to start the description of this landscape.
I would like to speak of the Namib Desert , Sossusvlei but omitting What Surely And Very known , - I will not even speak of climbing the dunes - I would Tell about the desert near Swakopmund .
Taking one of the many excursion, You can easily get near the desert Surrounding this little German Town transplanted in southern Africa , and what is being an excellent point of departure to explore the desert . It's very easy to find an excursion to the desert , in my case I decided to join the tour in the desert with a beautiful boat trip .
When i arrived over a dune, the show that I looked after a few minutes is really unique: the desert that falls sheer stormy ocean . it was amazing the gold sand met blue sea! Undescrible!
Going forward I discover some peculiarities : the desert is not desert ... indeed! It is full of strange insects , snakes , and large mammals such as antelope and wildebeest ! Also there are some kinds of plants that survive very well to the climate in this area especially because the fog is everywhere . In a moment I rolled over my concept of sandy desert and " dead " .
So, after many romantic landscapes, was arriving the time to play! After a fantastic lunch over a dune and two or three glasses of wine, it's sandboard time!
Ok, i'm not an expert , normally i'm snowboard addicted, but my experience didn't avoid me to taste local sand...but i didn't appreciate it.
Later in the day then the sun peeks and the sand is golden amazing reflecting the sunlight on a blue sky and clear as never before ... it is very difficult not to remain bewitched .
An incredible place in an incredible continent! Namibia desert is, of course, a colours mixture! But Gold and Blue are the colors of my namibian memories.
