Titus Canyon

Death Valley

By far the most amazing place i’ve ever visited is Death Valley National Park in California. This year will be my 5th time venturing into the Hottest, Driest, Lowest place on the earth. With It's endless beauty, amazing Wildlife and unexplored Canyons, this makes Death Valley a must. You just don't know what your going to find. I think this is also one of the reasons I keep coming back.

Trekking into places that may have never been walked in for years.. You really do not know what you are going to find. Last November we saw 5 beautiful Tarantulas, a species of arachnid that is sadly misunderstood. Just spending time watching them move about with No aggression is very therapeutic.

I have done quite a bit of solo hiking into certain Canyons within Death Valley, not something I would advise, however I am very experienced and take extra precautions. There is just something about hiking into a Canyon early morning, no one about with total silence. Its almost like a fresh reborn feeling where your head is totally clear and it feels almost spiritual. I’ll always find somewhere to sit down for an hour and just totally relax. A detox of the mind.

I have Hiked numerous Canyons in Death Valley all of which are beautiful in so many ways but one always sticks out in my mind. Titus Canyon is just AMAZING. At 27 miles long Titus Canyon is a perfect day out in the car. I on the other hand have started very early and Hiked in 15 Miles. Because its one way for so long, you just don't see anyone for hours which is just how I like it. There is also a little Spring about 4 - 5 miles in where Native Americans use to come and hunt Bighorn who were using the Spring. Just passed the Spring are petroglyphs left behind by the Native Americans. Arriving at the Spring gives you the chance to refresh your face and soak your bandana which will cool the top of your head, something that you will be so thankful for.

When you get to your 10th Mile you come across the Leadfield Ghost Town. This town was inhabited for less than a year due to the Lead deposits running out. The only things visible are some corrugated shacks and some Dangerous Mines which I do not encourage anyone to Explore.

It wasn't that much further where I stopped and joined my ride which was coming through the Canyon. This year I intend to Hike the Whole of the Canyon, Camp the night and Hike back the next morning.
