-------- (withheld) is locked in a family dispute between the elders and an unwanted chief. A story of violence and abuse a struggle between the wealthy educated minority and the traditional beliefs and culture of the chief makers. The goal is ultimate control of land and power The images show a celebration the first festival organised by the clans since The beginning of the still unsettled dispute. The images are unique in that they were allowed at all Distrust due to the improper use of photographs caused a sub chief to flee in fear of his life from that moment till this day this is a no go area for a camera. these images only exist because of the trust built up over several years between ourselves and our friends and neighbours. They are just a tiny glimpse into a culture that protects and cares for it's own A culture that does not let death or poverty stop their enjoyment of life. Pounding sound systems, plentiful food and alcohol lubricate death into a celebration of life. As for me home is where you put your heart and for me these images represent more than just a village and it's people. Photography for me at least should be a celebration of difference not a tool of destruction for a culture that dose not fit in the plans and understanding of others. Myself !
not so young, love to travel and take photographs. Have returned to the Uk after travelling in Europe and West Africa for 5 years, My feat itch, Have always wanted to work and learn from a professional photographer ( it has always eluded me ). Seeking a new direction in my life, the next step.
