My Travel Writing Scholarship 2011 entry - My Big Adventure

I have never traveled before in airplane. I had a unique experience in the plane. It was first time even that I planned to stay in Islamabad for a year for my studies. Anyways, I got at Islamabad airport very safe and sound. The journey was a bit tiring but I knew the way to cope with it. Taking beer and wine all the while in the plane. It got here quite drunk but in senses. That is the very reason the atmosphere here is very clean. I am talking about the natural atmosphere. The human atmosphere of most of the people around here is basically made up of 4 things, viz, EAT, DRINK, SEX AND SLEEP. This makes me very downcast at times. The girls here are exceptionally beautiful but are also exceptionally mindless. It is strange that most of the students I am coming across here do not know things in depth. They have a good form but their content is poor. This society has got nothing to teach us. Politically, sociologically and intellectually uninformed and unconcerned, this is what the students here are. My classes will start from 1 March, so it is not possible for me to comment about the academics now. But from the way things are here, one can guess about the state of affairs in the universities.
I have met with people from across the cities of Pakistan here. From MirpurKhas to Gujrat, Karachi to Sibi, but if you ask them about the real issues of our country and the world, they just declare intellectual bankruptcy. Well, there is one redeeming feature here that the people are not racists. I think we in the poor societies are much more informed than the people here. The students here were preaching Islamic doctrines in the university and campaigning for the Mosque and religion! But the difference was that we have bearded mullahs preaching religion, here they have top-notch boys in clean shave preaching Islam. That day I jokingly told a handsome preacher that had we got such smart to preach religion then I would be the first to go religious! Surprisingly, my joke made him realize that I was a homosexual.
They preach religion but if one looks at them, and then they become a threat to one's religion. I did not have to worry much about my religion as I have none. I suggest those who come here mush keep religion under lock and key in a safe place back home.
I really do not like the stupid sort of life people live here. Really, I do not know why people just die for living in a westernized society like Islamabad. I just don’t. Everybody here minds his own business and that business is to earn money whether legal or illegal.
Today is sat night so all the roads here are full of shouting, drunk, kissing and hugging, half-clothed boys and girls. POOR! Islamabad is great city with great form but a poor content.
