"How did I end up here?" I paused for a moment."What was it like before?" I can hardly recall any memories. It all started on December 30th. I took a flight from Greece to London, in order to study there for six months. Finally, I had an opportunity to bring to life my teenage dream. I would travel for the first time in my life and live in a foreign country for a semester."What was it like before?" Maybe I don't want to remember.
"Wow! Look at those girls dancing!" My Brazilian friend headed to the front of the line in order to get a better view of the vehicles, passing us by. Here we are now! After a few months in London, I was celebrating St.Patrick's Day in Trafalgar Square, with my new friends.
Irish music stopped unexpectedly my train of thought. My Italian friend was chattering with some Italian guys he just met the other day. Next to me, a little Spanish girl, sitting at her dad's back, was waving vividly the Irish flag and smiling back at the performers. Proud and cheerful, the dancers were validating their freedom by shaking the earth to the beat of the music.
It is remarkable how effortlessly we communicated with each other as well as with the performers of the St.Patrick's parade. An amalgamation of cultures, celebrating, united, one culture, all living in a multicultural city. I was happy I was here. I was part of this celebration, needing not any identity, relegion or colour. I was here. I was free. I was where I needed to be. I was a part of this world.
