My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

I am passionate about traveling and recording my own unique experiences through photographs. Since early childhood, I have gazed at the beautiful photos throughout National Geographic magazines. At a later stage, reading the articles became as intriguing. My interest in photography was sparked during high school and have continued through University from a Fine Art perspective; developing my interest into a passion and way of life. A friend joked I would rescue my camera over her in a life or death scenario: completely untrue! The camera isnt important; just the memory cards! I love colors and symmetry, shapes and interesting angles. I prefer candid portraiture. I take photos of anything different to my familiar surroundings. My photos bring me absolute joy when I look through albums, remembering the environment, culture, sounds, smells and sights of my travels. I tend to do my best to capture the beauty of this wonderful world; occasionally there are less beautiful things happening around you, but they are as important to be communicated and shared with the hope we can improve ourselves. Due to my limited photographic knowledge, my eyes witness a far greater sight than I can project through my lens to a photograph. A recent trip to South Africa opened my eyes to the overwhelming rich landscape and diverse culture. I have selected my favorite photos taken of various locations within South Africa. The photos depict a range of different, contrasting activites, landscapes, lifestyles and locations, but all together left me to form a rich engulfment within the South African cultures and ways. I have plans to travel around South Africa soon, as there is still so much of the country to experience through my eyes and soul and convey through my camera lens and photographs.
