Around the World through Storytelling

Portraits of Elmira: Randy and Helen Jackson

USA | Saturday, 1 August 2015 | Views [289] | Scholarship Entry

My name is Estefania Trujillo. I am currently an AmeriCorps VISTA at Cornell Cooperative Extension in Chemung County. My job here is to work with the community in Elmira, NY to create a poverty reduction plan. Throughout my time here, which is actually ending in a few weeks, I realized that storytelling is my passion. How? I wanted to create a page/blog about sharing positive stories about the people of Elmira: Portraits of Elmira. I couldn't spend all of my time doing storytelling, because my main job is the plan, but I want this to be my career. Sharing stories. This opportunity will be a great opportunity for me to grow, and learn about using film for storytelling. The best part is that it is in my home country. I have lived in the U.S. my whole life, and I have been wanting to return to my home country to learn more and share stories of the people I love. What better way to start storytelling, than in your own country?
