My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Monday, November 7, 2011 | 5 photos

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” The increasing relevance of Gandhi’s wisdom continues to act as a driving force in my life, helping me focus on the importance of creating positive changes on a personal and global level. As a current Global Studies major with five years’ experience in local and global humanitarian activism, I know what it means to be dedicated and feel passionate, harnessing the corresponding proverbial ‘fire within’ as incentive to continue learning and improving upon the methods I use to be successful in my endeavors. However, my love for the Earth and desire for equality amongst its peoples is not my only passion. Exercising a variety of photography techniques, competing in a wide range of dance styles, and being a strong leader in casual or organized situations also contribute to my palette of personality traits. I find learning about and submerging myself in new cultures fascinating. Whether this means taking Spanish language lectures or exploring Costa Rica for three weeks, the affects are always the same: a diversified heart and an open mind. Communicating my experiences with Jason from Africa to my local community would come naturally to me. When paired with my knack for capturing magical moments and scenes which normally go unnoticed, my devoted heart and mind make an indisputable team capable of transferring both visual and sentimental wonders. Creating positive change in the world and taking wondrous photographs are not only two of my passions; they are two major components of my personality that enable me to experience and preserve life’s most unique and precious moments. I am grateful for every opportunity I get to learn, travel, and grow as an individual for they enable me to be the change.
