About Why I Should Be Chosen
My name is Eric. I’m applying for this scholarship to achieve two primary goals. Firstly (and selfishly), I want to learn how to effectively capture a travel moment in a visual format so that I can remember the emotions when I'm old! With Jason's mentoring and photography fieldwork I would learn about "making" (and not just "taking") a photo. Secondly, I want to tell stories about places through my eyes. With such sharing, I would then be leaving something valuable behind for future generations.
Winning this scholarship to Bhutan will transform my curiosity into a passion, and give me a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in travel photography one step at a time and one photo at a time.
About My Photos
I traveled to Lithuania during the autumn. It was a place with rich cultures yet few voices to tell the stories. Foreign travelers were few and far between and the sunlight mirrored this frequency. While life and light did grace this place, a contrasting mood of isolation was also experienced. Based on this background all the photos were made under this theme/tone, but with sub-themes as described in each of the photo’s caption.
My vision of life resembles a series of one-take photos; once the moment has passed it cannot be altered. For this reason, I (perhaps inappropriately) have applied this spirit to my photography - I try to make the photos into what I see as relevant and accurate during the given moment, and they are all free from any digital adjustments.
Thank you for everyone's time and consideration.
