My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

A young boy takes a break from working and takes a moment to eat soup. He seemed famished after working for so long that he finished his soup immediately. For most of us, the idea of eating in the middle of a giant mountain of trash might be unthinkable, but he didn’t seem to mind.

What? Like he's got a choice in the matter of where he eats his soup? You've obviously never been really, truly hungry. (As most of us haven't either I guess).

This little girl is named Marilyn. She followed us as we took photos of the area and she keeps on signaling for us to take her picture. It must have been exciting for her to see a lot of photographers coming to visit them.

Upon seeing the cameras, these two young ladies stopped what they were doing and gamely posed. It’s not everyday that strangers come to visit them and it must have been a novel experience for them. Despite the extreme poverty they’re in, these people know how to find joy in the little things.
