My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Costa Rica | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 5 photos
My name is Elizabeth Pinheiro. I’m a 33-year-old Costa Rican with a passion for life, living and experiencing as much as life has to offer. I have worked in tourism for 10 years, and I feel passionate about both travel and photography. Never having actually worked as a photographer, I feel like its time to start exploring more of my abilities so I can hopefully combine the two. Of course, Africa, as well as working with Jason Edwards, would be a dream come true. This once in a lifetime opportunity would mean learning from the best, and I intend to take as much from it as possible, provided I’m chosen.
Costa Rica, is one of the countries with greatest biodiversity in the world with nearly 4% of the total species estimated worldwide, even though it is only 51.100 km2 (0.03% of the
planet’s surface). 16,000 acres of that belongs to the Poas Volcano National Park, home to a unique array of flora and fauna. My photos show a small sampling of the vegetation, small and big, of this incredible place. From small ferns to the aptly named Poor Man’s Umbrella, Poas is a natural playground for photographers.
My photography is focused on the details; the things that the ordinary eye might never catch. I try to look at the world from different perspectives, and to take a different approach when I hold my camera. I hope this search for hidden treasures shows in my collection, and that you are intrigued by what you see.
Thank you so much, and Pura Vida!
Elizabeth Pinheiro
