My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Worldwide | Thursday, November 3, 2011 | 5 photos
I have loved travelling ever since I was very young. Over the past three years I have discovered the world of photography, to which I have become increasingly attached, and a year ago, I bought myself a Nikon D90. Since then, it has not left my side and I take it with me wherever I go. Photography is now a part of me.
I come from the french-speaking part of Switzerland and have been living in Melbourne, Australia for the last seven months. I have a work contract here for two years, after which time I intend to backpack across the world. I really want to go to lesser-known countries like Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia or Brunei, etc.
I am truly passionate about photography because the camera is an extension of our eye. I believe that we use our bodies to take pictures in order for our eye to see, we must be in the right place. We enable this using our bodies, it is a physical relationship to the world, so whether the object is a building in New York, a house in Amsterdam or an Egyptian pyramid, what is important is where we place ourselves. The eye establishes this, but there is a profound physicality in photography. This is what distinguishes different photographers and their specific creativity.
I think I am an excellent candidate for this scholarship because I love to travel and discovering new cultures, and believe I have a touch of originality that nobody else has. I am an adventurer, I am ready to commit myself 1000% to a career as a photographer and I would be more than glad to learn how to shoot with a pro like Jason Edwards...
