Awhitu Peninsula

Only an hour away from Auckland CBD but it's vast panoramas across wild, black-sand beaches and coastal cliff top roads make it a true escape. I'm talking about Awhitu Peninsula. Whether you enjoy visiting local vineyards, visiting historical landmarks such as Manaku Heads Lighthouse or you simply want to bathe in the beauty of a national park where you can explore tranquil bays, short walks and mountain bike trails or relax and swim at the white-sand beach located in the park. You can also visit the expansive black-sand beach of Karioitahi. It is perfect for all sorts of fun – hang gliding, paragliding, blokarting, surfing, 4 wheel driving and more.
I came across Awhitu Peninsula whilst visiting family in New Zealand's, north island. It's a hidden gem with character, adventure and natural beauty in Auckland's backyard.
