My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
United Kingdom | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos
Hi, my name is Emma. I help to manage a photography studio in London, and take my own photos on weekends. I am determined, with hard work and patience, to work my way into a career as a wildlife and documentary photographer. I believe that intelligent, well composed, passionate photos help to draw attention to social and environmental issues and are a profound and brilliant way to communicate.
There are several specific things that I would like to learn from assisting Jason: firstly, the practicalities of travelling abroad with equipment and a brief. Secondly, speed- a familiarity with my camera and composition that allows me to see an opportunity and capture it without hesitating. Finally, and most importantly for me, bravery- the confidence in my skills and my purpose that enables me to take risks and also to take my time so that I get the shot I want.
It would be a huge and humbling pleasure to carry equipment for 14 hours a day, to sleep in waiting rooms and talk to locals alongside Jason. I'll take every second with my eyes and ears open, my camera (and backup battery) ready, a smile on my face.
