My Scholarship entry - Fayette
USA | Saturday, November 22, 2014 | 5 photos
While wielding not only my digital camera, but later two film cameras loaded with black and white and color film, I entered the preserved, historic iron-smelting town of Fayette in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Walking into the town, one feels a sense of majesty, yet it feels forgotten. After returning home, I slightly manipulate my digital images, develop in the darkroom, and create digital negatives for alternative photographic processes. Using these techniques, I try to encapsulate the feeling Fayette radiates.
My motive is to create the emotion the place is emanating. I try to capture this fleeting moment to enclose it not only in memory but on film. It astounds me every time I am able to successfully create an ephemeral image. The opportunity to travel to the Peruvian Amazon and work with Jason to capture these passing moments is a remarkable opportunity; not only would I be able to soak the knowledge he has to extend, but I would also be able to capture those transient instances. Fayette, the Amazon, and places around the world will never be the same as they are today. The world is always changing; therefore, being able to capture it in a precise moment consistently leaves me in awe.
