Mainz

GERMANY | Wednesday, 6 August 2014 | Views [211]

The lovely lisa picked me up after her exam and we walked back to her unit to dump my bags...really nice apartment right next to a beautiful church (I have a pic from the balcony) and close to the Rhine river..lisa took a break from her studies and showed me around the old town, market square and the beautiful Dom cathedral..it was the biggest church I'd been in, with tombs of bishops and all sorts of things! Ammmmaaazing amount of detail..'twas beautiful. Hung around the beautiful city square..which unlike Frankfurt wasn't as destroyed in WWII..walked through the tiny cobblestone streets and up to a church on the hill (St Stephens, which apparently had famous stained glass windows but we were too late to get in) saw remnants of the old city wall and towers and walked along the Rhine home..we then went out for dinner in one of the oldest restaurants in Mainz and I had an absolute feast! I treated myself, as how often is one in Mainz?! Pork steaks with mushrooms and potatoes..Nomnomnom..then Lisa's roommate niklas met us for a drink before we met with another friend and went to a few bars..even tho it was Monday :P
Woke up feeling a little seedy but not too bad...went in to the university with lisa and her housemate Lara and had lunch before meeting with niklas, my appointed tour guide :P whilst the girls studied we headed over to the historic town of wesibaden..beautiful architecture, a massive theatre..a very wealthy area ;) tried some water that comes from hot springs that apparently is meant to be great for you but it tasted gross! Headed back home where lisa had organized dinner :) looked through some old Africa pics, uploaded some of my own pics, booked a bus ticket to head to Munich the next day then bed!
