Emilie Staat’s novel, The Winter Circus, is about an aerialist who grows up in the circus, runs away to New Orleans, and learns the value of falling. She is currently writing Tango Face, a memoir about what learning Argentine tango is teaching her about personhood, gender dynamics, and relationships. Her essay “Tango Face” won the 2012 Faulkner-Wisdom Writing Competition and was published in The Double Dealer in 2013. She regularly writes book reviews, author profiles and interviews for 225 Magazine and has read submissions for Narrative Magazine and The Rumpus. She is a member of the Peauxdunque Writers Alliance, a script coordinator in the film industry, and a tango dancer. She lives in New Orleans.
