My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Worldwide | Saturday, September 11, 2010 | 5 photos
These photographs are of Chereshovo, a once thriving worker’s town that is situated in the Northern Ruse region of Bulgaria.
Back in the 1970s the town was thriving and had a population of about 2000, today, the town currently has an old population of about 60 residents, which is getting lower day by day. These images were taken in Summer, Winter and Autumn on 35mm format.
I'm a self taught photographer and keen to learn further skills - although all these photos were taken on 35mm, I am happy to adapt to digital formats - although personally, I am not comfortable with post processing and find more magic and joy in capturing a frame in the moment. I love to explore new landscapes, indulging my imagination, but I feel that I must understand what I am looking at before I can take an image I am happy with - I found my photographs of Chereshovo and Bulgaria became richer with the more I understood. I find a catharsis with photography as its always a constant learning curve; I would like to understand and learn more in order to reach a higher potential and in order to allow my photographs to portray a landscape truthfully. I am very interested in photographing in natural light but would also like to know more about using artificial light in the right circumstances.
I would relish the opportunity to photograph in Bhutan - to gain an insight into a rich culture with such an interesting history; learning how to truthfully convey this through the people and landscape - to also be alongside a professional photographer would be a first for me; i can't convey enough just how much this opportunity would mean to me - i hope to get the chance to convey it with pictures!
