Not a whole lot of adventure in Iquitos, unless you are talking about trying to cross the street! My new friend Jairo has been awesome about hanging out with me here. I´ve met many of his friends and family, too. Some days understanding Spanish is getting easier. I won´t mention how awful I am at speaking it though, but I´m getting there. I got a complement from my taxi driver today about how well I spoke. haha (or jaja in spanish.) I did get to tour Belen, a huge market and neighborhood (or town, not really sure) in Iquitos. It´s known for its pickpockets, floating houses, and inexpensive market wares. Jairo and his friend Victor kept me and the three ladies from Quebec we met on the way nice and safe though. I didn´t have any issues, and it was neat getting to see the fish and meat and vegetables and medicine plants everywhere. Very few of the houses are floating at the moment due to the rain being out of season, but it´s still interesting thinking about the canoes going where we were walking.
I arrived in Miraflores this afternoon and spent a little bit of time walking around before going to dinner with a TN guy named Richard who is also at the same hostel.
more to come later and I hope to get some pix up soon!...
