My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Ghana | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos
I am a 26 year old business consultant from Sydney, Australia. These photographs were taken on a volunteer trip to Ghana, West Africa. I want to win because i would love to spend the rest of my life taking photographs - of people, places and cultures all around the world. I take my camera with me absolutely everywhere! For me photography is about capturing that single fleeting moment - the lazy hot afternoon african sun, the excitement in the air as people celebrate a football victory; the pure happiness of a young child's smile; the quiet contemplation of a poor african girl in the remote jungle of ghana… I capture the moment in a beautiful, compelling image that I can bring back and share with others…. and that others want to look at again and again.
I think I have a natural ability - the foundations of good composition, fundamental technical understand, and the ability to engage with the people I photograph… but I really need to learn more to get to the next level. I would love to spend time with Jason to discuss where I can improve my technique and how I can go from taking a good image to a really great one.
I really want to win this. I think I have the raw skill that now need to be guided, refined, developed, mastered. I really want this - when I put my mind to something I go after it 500% and for me photography is that passion.
If I get to Bhutan I will take photographes to show in fundraising exhibitions when I get back home - so that I can give back to the communities that allowed me to capture their world.
Cheers,
Emma
