Beyond Smiles - A Ugandan Experience

About elyse

Hi, I'm Elyse and I am an aspiring film director. I have worked on many short films studying Film and Television at Curtin University. I have made two short dramas (one of which won Best Tertiary Film at the 2010 WA Screen Awards), one documentary and a music video. During my studies I also produced and directed a youth television series called 'Antics' on Access 31 Television, which was nominated for Best Youth program at the 2007 Antenna Awards. I also ,independantly, spent a month in Uganda in 2008 completing an internship at the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation.

I love documentaries because they give a voice to those who would otherwise be unheard. People in the world that are suffering, people that need to be ackowledged and helped. Film making is truly an art form that is not only beautiful but evocative. Film's innate ability to pull at peoples' heart strings means it is a unique form of communication that can encourage people to act, to be a better person, and to refuse to accept inequality and inhumanity.
