We go to Cairo, Inch Allah

Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, my family was an interesting one. Son of a Trinidadian immigrant mother, and a hippie peace-loving father, I always thought I was adopted and searched for where I fit in in the world. We weren't a normal family -- that's a whole story in itself -- and I don't really have too many fond memories of my childhood. But one thing that did stick with me was that every year, no matter how little money we had, my mom would save enough from her teaching job so that we could take a trip somewhere. I was too young to remember most of these places now, but I have the photos to show me in Athens at the Acropolis, Morocco by all the mosques, and even living in India for a year while my mother researched a book. I love traveling because of all the main reasons people do; to learn more about other cultures, to find the beauty that exists everywhere, and to meet those incredible people who try and make a difference. Ever since graduating college, my family has stopped doing those trips together, but my adventurous spirit has continued. Working in film is not a very prosperous job, but I save every year so that I can go someplace different. Not the typical spring break to Europe or Mexico, but to a part of the world that isn't as well explored. Last year I happened to travel to Colombia and fell in love. I sold all my belongings and moved. This country never ceases to amaze me and I love exploring it to find those hidden gems that make it amazing.
