My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Qatar | Friday, June 28, 2013 | 5 photos

My name is Elsa Naumann. I am a marine biologist by education, a choice made when I was very young, spurred by a strong passion for the sea and everything that lives in it. Photography became a serious hobby about six years ago. Since then, it has developed into a time consuming activity that I spend most of my free time pursuing. To be honest, photography has changed me, and the way I see the world. It has opened my eyes towards finding beauty in even the most mundane things (like a bathroom sink). My greatest dream is to be able to combine the knowledge I have gained from my marine biology background with photography and work as a conservation photographer, raising people’s awareness through imagery. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words. However, having learnt to take pictures without any formal training or mentoring, I realise that I still have a lot to learn. I truly believe that the opportunity presented by Travel Nomads, to photograph and learn alongside National Geographic photographer Jason Edwards in a unique place like Greenland is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to further the chance of a dream coming true. That is my reason for applying for this scholarship.
